William “Bill” James Cooner Jr.

William “Bill” James Cooner Jr. went to be with the Lord Sunday morning, August 16, 2015 in Ohio Health MedCentral Hospital. He was 82.

He was born October 26, 1932 in Ashland, Ohio to parents William James & Ethel Cooner. He was graduated from Ashland High School with the class of 1950. 

After graduating high school he went on to join the Air National Guard and served from 1950 until his retirement in 1984. A Bellville resident, Bill held the position of Bellville Police Chief for 16 years before retiring in 2001.

He was a member of American Legion Post #535, Am Vets Post #43, National Rifle Association, State Rifle and Pistol Club and also volunteered for the Red Cross. 

He is survived by daughters Catherine (Ron) Cox of Butler and Haley Cooner of Bellville; sons John (Venus) Cooner of Columbus, Russell (Suzanne) Cooner of Leon, Iowa and William Cooner of Columbus; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister Mary Jane Lautzenhiser of Ashland; and numerous friends and extended family.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his previous wife Barbara (Brown) Cooner and his second wife Linda (Conner) Cooner.

The family will receive friends Saturday August 22, 2015 from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home where funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Kevin Moreland will officiate.

Contributions in his memory to the Red Cross may be made at the funeral.
