Stephen Edward Johnson passed away Thursday evening, February 12, 2015 in his Mansfield home following a very sudden illness. He was 47.
He was born April 25, 1967 in Mansfield the son of Edward Dawson Johnson and Carolyn Sue (Carpenter) Kilgore. Steve was graduated from Clear Fork High School with the class of 1985, where he was a star football player. For a time, he held the title of the most tackles in a single season at Clear Fork and achieved Honorable Mention Defensive Lineman at the state level.
Steve worked as a dry wall installer in homes and businesses all over Bellville and Mansfield; the past two years he was employed by Cooper Enterprises. In spare time, he enjoyed fishing in the Reservoir and the Clear Fork and playing with his son, Sage.
He is survived by his sister Debbie Johnson of Canton; girlfriend Chelsea Stander of Bucyrus; his 7 month old son Sage Ashton Johnson; father Edward Johnson of Mansfield; maternal grandmother Mary Haught of Canton; four aunts: Sandy Eakle of Canton, Rita Jute of Canton, Delores Costello of Springfield, and Lynn Kondrack of Virginia; two nieces Brook Carpenter and Blake Carpenter; two great-nieces Addison & Alise; along with numerous cousins and close friends.
Steve was preceded in death by his mother Carolyn Kilgore.
His family will receive friends 1-3 p.m. Saturday, February 21, 2015 in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home, 81 Mill Rd, where his funeral service will begin at 3 p.m. and Celebrant Jerry Wilson will officiate.
