Lifelong area resident, Shirley Jane Bender, 80, passed away Saturday morning, Feb. 27, 2016 in University Hospital Samaritan Medical Center in Ashland following an extended illness.

Born Nov. 9, 1935 in Johnsville, Shirley was the daughter of Willard and Bertha (Smith) Bender. She was graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1953.

Shirley worked in the office at the Tappan Company and held many different responsibilities there. She was a member of their 25 Years Club. She was an avid reader and will be remembered for her sharp mind and her kindness.

She is survived by a sister Janice Wick, of Mansfield; sisters-in-law Nell Bender, of Buena Park, California, and Francis Bender, of Mansfield; nieces Barbara and Gary Galliway, Wendy Binion, Stacey Harris, Lori Stafford, and Sheree Nazari; nephews Randy and Pam Timmer, Mark and Barbara Timmer, Greg Timmer, Tim (Barbara) Timmer, and Keith and Linda Bender.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings Ronald Bender, Marvin Bender, Willis Bender and Eileen Timmer; and nephews Kevin Timmer, Rodney Bender, and Gary Bender.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2016 in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, where a funeral service celebrating her life will be held 11 a.m. Thursday. Pastor Andrew Jones will officiate and burial will follow in Shauck Cemetery near Johnsville.

Contributions in her memory to First English Lutheran Church may be made at the funeral home.
