Shirley E. Snyder, 91, Galion, died Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at her home after a sudden illness.
Shirley was born in Galion on April 18, 1925 to the late Milton E. “Roy” and Pearl N. (Sprow) Tuttle. She married Robert W. Snyder on May 31, 1943 and he survives her. They enjoyed almost 73 years of marriage.
Shirley was a member of the First Baptist Church, Galion. She was a graduate of Galion High School, class of 1943. Shirley was a teletypist at Sears in Galion and also a teletypist at the Galion Inquirer where she retired in 1978.
Every winter for 20 years Shirley and her husband were snow birds in Frostproof, Florida. While in Florida, Shirley volunteered at Avon Park Nursing Home and Walker Memorial Hospital in Avon Park, Florida. Shirley enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Women’s Golf League at Valley View, Galion and enjoyed bowling.
Shirley was active in the Ohio Read Program at the former North School, a member of the hospital auxiliary, and volunteered at the former Rosewood Nursing Home. Whether they had a home or not, Shirley took care of all the neighborhood cats. She dearly loved her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Shirley is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Norman and Dr. Alice Snyder, Groveport, her daughter and son-in-law Patricia and Harold Cain, Springfield, six grandchildren; Andy and Jennifer Snyder, Angela and Joseph LaRosa, Aaron Snyder, Noelle Snyder, Anthony and Terri Cain, and Samuel and Courtney Cain, five great-grandchildren; Adam Ford, Amanda Ford, Alex Ford, Logan Cain, Skylar Cain and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her four brothers; Kenneth Tuttle, Maurice Tuttle, Russell Tuttle, and Alden Tuttle, her five sisters; Velma Coe, Doris Tuttle, Audrey Tuttle, Donna Edlin, and Muriel Sherman.
Friends may call Monday, May 9, 2016 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way N., Galion. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Galion, with Pastor Tim Wingert officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Galion.
