Russell Richard Denney, 82, of Galion passed away Friday, September 17, 2021 at home with his wife of 54 years, Patricia (Garvin) Denney by his side. They were married March 11, 1967.
He was born December 19, 1938 in Jackson County, Ohio and was the son of Melvin and Regina (Phillips) Denney.
Rich graduated from Wellston High School and retired from Galion Amco after 30 years of being a supervisor. He enjoyed working on automobiles and was mechanically inclined. Rich had the ability to see a gem out of a diamond in the rough. This did not only apply to cars and anything with an engine, but also to houses or more specifically the home he and Pat shared with their family. Over the years, he showed his love and care by remodeling the family home and making sure it was well suited for their life together. This home is where they raised their family and hosted many family gatherings including Sunday dinners. A tradition revived by Rich, as he felt family was a gift and he enjoyed having everyone together. Rich will leave family and friends with numerous memories including camping trips in their Winnebago, white bass fishing, going on “Safaris” or long drives around Ohio looking for old cars and other treasures, sharing jokes and stories around the table and on the front porch. He was quick to offer help and share kindness and most importantly make sure his wife and family knew they were loved, cared for and that he appreciated each of them.
His memory, life lessons and love will be cherished and shared by his wife, Patricia (Garvin) Denney; sister, Aleeta (Larry) Potts of Sarasota, Florida; brother, Billy (Verna) Denney of Romoland, California; brother-in-law, Ronald (Audrey) Garvin of Jackson, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Jackie Denney of Lake Placid, Florida and Betty Sorrell of Chillicothe, Ohio; five children, Kristy Bowman of Wilkesville, Ohio, Michael (Kim) Denney of Wellston, Ohio, Regina (Chris) Sackman of Mansfield, Russell Denney of Mansfield and Betty (Steve) Crider of Cynthiana, Kentucky; 10 grandchildren, Tonya Bowman, Laura Bowman, Tyler (Sasha) Bowman, Stephanie (Josh) McCarter, Michael Denney, Kyle Crider, Russell Joseph Denney, Kiersten Denney, Charles (Betty) Sackman and Shawn (Justine) Sackman; 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Douglas Denney; son-in-law, Terry Bowman and brother-in-law, Martin Sorrell.
Following his wishes, there will be a private family gathering.
In lieu of memorial donations or flowers, the family requests that you spend time with your family making memories and sharing your kindness with others.
