Roy Albert Duff, age 97, of Colorado Springs, Colorado and former Shelby resident, died Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Liberty Heights Assisted Living in Colorado Springs.

Roy and his late wife, Margaret, moved to Colorado Springs in the 1990s to be closer to their only daughter, Sandra.

Roy was born June 28, 1918 in Canton, Ohio, the son of the late Charlotte M. “Lottie” (Bandush) and Roy A. Duff, Sr. He was a graduate of Buchtel High School in Akron, Ohio. On February 9, 1941, Roy married the former Margaret E. Wagner and she preceded him in death on May 21, 2013.

Roy joined his father in business and was the owner of Duff’s Shoe Store, originally in Willard and later in downtown Shelby, which operated for 44 years. For the majority of his life, specifically 1938-1998, he was an active Ham Radio operator with the license W8SAG .He enjoyed talking with Ham Radio operators worldwide and mostly worked Morse code but sometimes phone. Roy enjoyed traveling with his wife, Margaret, and together they took several trips to Europe to visit their daughter, Sandra, and her family while they resided there. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Shelby.

Roy is survived by his daughter: Sandra Ensman of Colorado Springs, Colorado; 3 granddaughters: Kristina, Karina, and Kathryn all of Colorado; 6 great grandchildren; and a brother in law: Robert L. Wagner of Shelby.

Family and friends are welcome on Saturday, April 30, 2016 from 10-11 a.m. at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. with Rev. Russel Yoak, pastor of First Lutheran Church in Shelby, officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
