MANSFIELD: Ronald Thomas “Ron” Ahles, 81, of Mansfield, passed away Friday evening June 18, 2021 at home, surrounded by his family, following a brief illness.
The son of Paul “Bud” and Delores (Chirdon) Ahles, Ron was born August 18, 1939 in Ashville, Pennsylvania and graduated from Cresson Joint High School. Ron served in the Army and was honorably discharged on January 31, 1963.
Ron met Elaine Boland, and their first official date was midnight mass in 1961. Eight months later, on August 25, 1962 Ron and Elaine were married.
Raising their family in Mansfield, Ron worked for General Motors. He retired after 40 years, as a quality control engineer.
Ron faithfully served as member of Resurrection Parish and auxiliary member at St. Peters Catholic Church. He assisted in leading the Respect For Life Group, was an altar server for daily mass and funeral mass services, and visited and served communion to those who were hospitalized and home bound. Ron was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
He loved to golf….especially with his son Jon. Ron was a member at the Woods Golf Course. Ron was a family-man. He will be remembered for his strong faith and dedication to his family and church.
He is survived by his wife Elaine Ahles of Mansfield; children Mark (Deborah) Ahles of Fairborn, Laurie (Jeff) Loparo of South Carolina, and Jon (Wanda) Ahles of Lexington; grandchildren Elizabeth, Rachel, Sarah, Aaron, Rose, Ryan, Tyler, Amber, and Ashley; 12 great grandchildren; brother Gary (Karen) Ahles of Cresson, Pennsylvania; brother-in-law Chuck Homerick of Cresson, Pennsylvania; nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Phyllis Homerick.
Ron’s family will receive friends Tuesday evening, June 22, 2021 from 5-7 pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where vigil services will be held at 7 pm. Funeral mass at Resurrection Parish will be held Wednesday at 10 am. Father Kevin Moebius will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow in Oak Grove Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Resurrection Parish may be made at the funeral home.
