Ronald D. Schmidt, 52, Galion, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2017 at his home after a short illness.

Ron was born in West Union on Jan. 14, 1965 to the late Robert Schmidt and Janet (Spence) Schmidt, who survives in Lucas. He married Melinda K. (Brandt) Schmidt on Jan. 3, 2001 and she survives him.

Ron was a truck driver for Golden Hawk Transportation in Crestline. He loved being a truck driver, enjoying every minute of his job. Ron enjoyed family gatherings such as going on drives, family cookouts, and just spending time with others.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Ronnie Smith and his fiancée Jackie Hively of Galion; brothers, Robert Schmidt of Mansfield and Troy Schmidt of Lucas; niece, Jamie Schmidt; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Cindy and Wayne Manor of Riga, MI.

Friends may call Friday, Dec. 29, 2017 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way North, Galion. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 29, 2017 at Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, Galion. Burial will follow in Dapper Cemetery, Galion.
