Robert V. Hirtz, 83, of Galion, died Sunday, September 13, 2015 at Mill Creek Nursing And Rehab, Galion after a lengthy illness.

Robert was born in Crestline on April 26, 1932 to the late Israel and Muriel (Hoover) Hirtz.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1949 to 1952. Robert retired from Yellow Freight as a truck driver and was a lifelong farmer.

He is survived by his two brothers and three sisters, Lloyd and Jean Hirtz of Crestline, Clinton Hirtz of Galion, Phyllis Ulmer of Galion, Donna and Michael Tackett of San Antonio, TX, and Carolyn and Paul Hetrick of Genoa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Donald and John Hirtz and two sisters, Wilma Beck and Evelyn Holbrook.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, September 19, 2015 at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way N., Galion. Burial will follow in Dapper Cemetery. Military honors will be given by the U.S. Army and the Galion Crestline Veterans Military Funeral Detail.
