Bob Crowl was a man who never learned to say ‘no’. He was happy to be the first to offer help when he saw a need. Bob was blessed with an upbeat spirit, a generous heart, an ornery laugh, and the gift of gab.
Robert Andrew Crowl, Jr. passed away early Sunday morning, November 17, 2013 in OSU Medical Center following a short leukemia diagnosis. He was 73.
Born August 30, 1940 in Alliance, he was the son of Robert Andrew Crowl, Sr. and Kathryn Irene (Bosley) Crowl. Bob was graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1958 and later earned an associate’s degree from North Central State College. On April 7, 1962 he married Sandra Tapper.
Bob could do it all. He worked as a journeyman tool & die maker at Tappan for 24 years, as a bus driver for Madison Schools for 30 years, and as an associate professor of tool & die at NCSC from where he eventually retired. In his spare time, he enjoyed singing and building model airplanes—usually at the same time!
Bob was a charter member of Southside Christian Church and served the church in every capacity including singing in the choir and serving as trustee. He was also a member of: Masonic Lodge F&AM #376 of Bellville, the Baku Grotto of Mansfield, the Fun Center Chordsmen of Mansfield, Bravada (a Fun Center Chordsmen quartet), the Singing Buckeyes of Columbus, and the Don Vidra IPMS Mid Ohio Chapter (for model planes).
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Sandee Crowl; his son Alex Crowl of Columbus; grandson Braden Crowl of Columbus; brothers William (Patty) Crowl of Elgin, IL and James (Judy) Crowl of Mansfield; two sisters-in-law Lindee Webb of Plain City and Terri (George) Obert of Columbus; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his in-laws: Paul & Gloria Tapper.
The family will receive friends Friday, December 6, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8 in Southside Christian Church, 2055 Middle Bellville Road, Mansfield. A memorial service officiated by Pastor Paul Lintern will begin at 7 p.m. and will include the Fun Center Chordsmen, the Singing Buckeyes, and will conclude with a Masonic service. Saturday, December 7th a graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. in Oak Grove Memorial Park in Lexington.
