Ricky Earl Scruggs, 52, passed this life on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 in his home after a brief illness.
Mr. Scruggs was born on Saturday, Oct. 30, 1965 to the late Charles and Carrie (Scott) Scruggs Sr. in Mansfield and was a life resident. Ricky was a member of the Mansfield Senior High School Class of 1983. After graduation Ricky joined the Army Reserves serving 4 years. Ricky was employed by MANCI retiring in 2016 after 27 years of service. Ricky enjoyed cooking, music, long drives in the country taking in nature and the outdoors allowing him serenity.
Ricky is survived by his daughter: Rickquetta Scruggs, Columbus; Nicholas Ballard whom he raised like a son, Mansfield; 3 sisters: Charlestine Scruggs, Columbus, Phyllis Bragg, and Jackie (Curtis) Caldwell, Mansfield; 4 brothers: Edward Scruggs, Columbus, Charles (Melissa) Scruggs, Jr., Randy Bragg, and Damarcus Scruggs, Mansfield; best friend who was like a brother: Melvin (Nicole) Girtman, Mansfield; and a special friend: Jo Diane Medina, Mansfield.
In addition to his parents Ricky was preceded in death by two step-mothers Harlena Scruggs and Mary Tolliver-Scruggs.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Services with Rev. Derrick Williams officiating. Friends may call at the chapel beginning at 10 a.m. till the time of service. The Richland County Veterans Burial Detail will conduct services at the funeral home prior to interment in Mansfield Cemetery.
The family will also receive friends at the home of Ricky’s sister Jackie, 1150 Pearce Dr. daily from 4 to 7 p.m. till the day of service.
