She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Edwin J. and Vernell Hargreaves Davis.

She and her late husband, Harry N. Edmiston, spent 16 years in Boardman, Ohio before moving to Mansfield in 1963. In addition to her parents and husband, Phyllis was preceded in death by her brothers, Merrill E. and David E. Davis.

She is survived by her four children, Nancy V. Rolley (Don), H. Norm (Julie), Nyssa E. Pymer (Kelly Moody), and Mark D. (Mary Sue), and her grandson Paul Smith (Pam), who was really like a fifth child to her, grandchildren Jason Edmiston, Jenny Porada and Jeff Edmiston, Courtney Mackert (Randy), and Jaime Wheeler (Jamie), five great grandchildren also survive her, as do her sister Nancy D. Nyrop, sister-in-law Janice W. Davis, and special nieces and nephews.

Phyllis lived a full and happy life, and was the glue that held her family close, no matter where they wandered.

She was grateful for her church, First United Methodist, and for the friends she found there. Lunch with them was a highlight of each week.

Phyllis retired from working 24 years as an LPN at the old Mansfield General Hospital, a career she had longed for and pursued later in her adult life. It was there that she made many lifelong friends with her colleagues. She was a competent, caring nurse. Phyllis was an avid reader, so books were always her favorite gifts. She loved animals, and had a particular fondness for golden retrievers, which is why she supported Golden Retrievers in Need (GRIN).

A funeral service celebrating her life will be held Thursday, February 19, 2015 at 2 p.m. in the Finefrock Chapel of the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, 350 Marion Avenue. The Rev. Kent Joy will officiate. A private interment will be in Mansfield Cemetery.

Contributions in her memory to Golden Retrievers in Need Rescue Service, Inc. may be made at the funeral home.
