Otto B. Smith, 77, of Lexington, passed away on Friday, July 24, 2015, which was also his wedding anniversary, following a lengthy illness.
Otto was born on February 24, 1938, in Columbia, SC, to Robert L. Smith and Clara Crawford. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during peacetime. He was past Commander of Amvets Post 87, Mt. Gilead. Otto enjoyed fishing and boating and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Mary (Owens) Smith; three step-sons, Doug (Golda) Lawhorn of Portsmouth, and Joe Riggs and Robert (Cathy) Lawhorn both of Mansfield; twelve step-grandchildren; thirteen step-great-grandchildren; thirteen step-great-great grandchildren, with one on the way; and two cousins, Bill Crawford and Miriam C. Busbee, both of Lexington, SC.
Otto was preceded in death by his parents.
Calling hours will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, 1106 Park Avenue East. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. with Brother Earl Tackett and Otto’s brother-in-law, Harold Owens, officiating. Burial will take place at Springmill Cemetery, with Richland Co. Joint Veterans Burial Detail performing Military Honors.
