Nila F. Swank

Nila F. Swank, 88, of Galion passed away Sunday morning, Feb. 28, 2016 at Mill Creek Nursing Center in Galion. 

She was born July 6, 1927 in Crestline and was the daughter of Harley A. and Treesa L. (Pillers) Hodle.

In 1949 Nila married Daryl E. Pfleiderer and he preceded her in death that same year. She later married Sheldon B. Swank in 1951 and he preceded her in death in 1988. Nila is also preceded in death by two sons Richard Swank and Sheldon Bruce Swank Jr. and a twin sister Twila Snyder.

She is survived by granddaughters Jennifer (Jason) Harbrough of Kansas City, Missouri, Janell (Clinton) Bradley of Poplar Grove, Illinois and Morgan (Brian Kershner) Swank of Columbus; four great grandchildren Adrian, Makenzie, Abagail and Edgar; her caregiver Joyce Hively of Galion; nephew Mark (Mary) Snyder of Colorado and a niece Diana (David) Lane of Michigan. 

Nila graduated from Crestline High School in 1945 and graduated from Tiffin College in 1947. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Galion and where she served as treasurer for many years. Nila was a member of the former Research Club, the Galion Community Hospital Twig 9 and the Order of the Eastern Star where she was a past matron. She was secretary/treasurer of the YMCA in Galion and during the merger of the YMCA and the Galion Community Center she became the treasurer of the Galion Community Center YMCA for many years until her retirement. 

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2016 at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833 where services will be held at 7 p.m., with Rev. Faith Proietti officiating. Burial will be in Crawford County Memory Gardens, Crestline at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Crawford County Humane Society in care of the funeral home.
