Milton “Butch” Conant, 73, of Galion, died Saturday, April 22, 2017 at his home after a lengthy illness.
Butch was born in Morrow County, on Sept. 9, 1943 to the late Harold and Ruth (Hart) Conant. He married Gloria “Jean” (Ruth) Conant on July 10, 1981 and she survives him.
Butch served on the Iberia Volunteer Fire Department and retired in 2006 after 26 years of service. He also served with the Edison Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years, serving at both locations for two years.
Butch was also a Deputy Sherriff in Morrow County for 10 years, and a retired truck driver. Butch drove truck for as long as he was able to drive. He enjoyed spending time with friends and watching the Cleveland Indians and attending their games. Butch also loved his scratch-off tickets and was chosen to be on the Cash Explosion Game Show.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his son, Tracy and Angie Conant, Mt. Gilead, his daughters, Amy and Raymond Wells, of Marengo, Audra Walters and fiancé, Matt, of Mansfield, Ronda and Jesse Henson, of Galion, Heather Blankenship and friend Jay, of Galion; his 10 grandchildren; Racheal, Josh, Kelsey, Jason, Chelsea, Erica, Cody, Colton, Dylan, and Chevy and nine great-grandchildren: Tyson, Tanndyn, Lily, Dakota, Hunter, Jayce, Dalton, Gracie, and Waylon; his sister, Martha Jones, Marion and brother-in-law Bruce Levering, of North Woodbury; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Butch was preceded in death by his daughter, Betty Jo Conant and his brother, George Conant and sister, Mary Jane Levering.
Calling hours will be on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way North, Galion, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 27, 2017 with Pastor Stephan Bloomfield officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Chesterville.
