MANSFIELD: Merle Ron Margot went to be with the Lord Thursday July 7, 2016 from Hospice House in Ashland following a brief illness. He was 74.
He was born September 17, 1941 in Bellville to parents Merle McCormick & Evelyn Eileen (Fichtner) Margot. He was graduated from Bellville High School with the class of 1959 and went on to attend a Bible college.
Ron proudly served his country by joining the United States Air Force where he served for four years. Afterwards he earned his A&P license from the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics where he then taught as a professor. Ron later worked with The 179th Airlift Wing of the Ohio Air National Guard in Mansfield for 22 years.
On November 23, 1974 he married a beautiful young lady named Mary (Longstreth) and the pair shared 41 wonderful years of marriage.
Ron enjoyed hunting—deer, antelope, duck, rabbit, squirrel… you name it, Ron would hunt for it! He also loved to go bass fishing and travelled to Virginia with friends every year (twice a year after he retired) for a big fishing trip. He was a hard worker who took pride in his yard, pond, and garden where he planted all kinds of beautiful flowers.
Ron really made people feel good about themselves. He always knew just what to say and always remembered your name. Ron was well organized and a meticulous record keeper. His family and friends will miss being tricked by his elaborate stories. But most of all, he will be remembered for his courage and perseverance. Even in the midst of illness, Ron never complained and was always more concerned for others than he was for himself.
He is survived by his loving wife Mary Margot of Mansfield; daughter Debi Hudson of Zionsville, IN; son and daughter-in-law David & Lori Hofsaess of Mansfield; grandchildren Kelsie Hudson, Tessa Hudson, Davey Hofsaess, and Kaytlin Hofsaess; two brothers and sisters-in-law Don & Valerie Margot of Lexington, and Gary & Connie Margot of Mansfield; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and countless friends.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends are invited to call 1-3 and 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2016 in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home where a funeral service celebrating his life will be held Thursday at noon. Pastor Jim Berry will officiate and burial will follow in Bellville Cemetery with military honors performed by the 179th Airlift Wing of the Ohio Air National Guard.
Contributions in his memory to Shriners Hospitals for Children or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital may be made at the funeral home.
