Marion L. VanDorn

Marion L. VanDorn, 82, of Galion, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2015 at Mill Creek Nursing And Rehab in Galion, after a short illness.

Marion was born in Morrow County, on July 16, 1933 to the late Leslie and Willa (Kincaid) VanDorn. He married Ollie G. Rose on Jan. 7, 1956 and she preceded him in death on April 7, 2005.

He retired in 1988 from Peabody as a machine operator after 25 years of service. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Marion enjoyed working in the yard, watching “Matlock” and “Little House On The Prairie." Marion was his daughters’ rock and biggest supporter. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his two daughters Judy VanDorn, of Crestline, and Brenda and Dale Slone, of Douglas, Georgia, his four grandchildren Brian (Dalee) Sherman, Kevin (Melissa) Sherman, Kimberly (Jason) VanDorn-Merritt and David Slone, his nine great-grandchildren, his siblings Wallace and Carol VanDorn, of Cardington, Florence Lewis, of Roy, Utah, Mary and Larry Adams, of Roy, Utah, Donald VanDorn, of Caledonia, Mildred and Robert Hahn, of Hidden, North Carolina, June Kohles, of Ogden, Utah, and his two sisters-in-law Elsie Randolph and Laura Henderickson.

He was preceded in death by his sister Eva Davenport and his three brothers Walter VanDorn, Marvin VanDorn and Robert VanDorn.

Friends may call Sunday, Nov. 15, 2015 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way North, Galion. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 16, 2015 at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Galion, with Pastor Ash Welch officiating.

Burial will follow in Crawford County Memory Gardens. Full military honors will be given by the U.S. Army and the Galion/Crestline Veteran’s Burial Detail.
