Marilyn J. Korbas, 87, of Shelby, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2017 at the Crestwood Care Center in Shelby.

She was born April 24, 1930 in Shelby, the daughter of the late Merl and Goldie (Swanger) Baker. Marilyn was a 1948 graduate of Shelby High School. Following graduation, she began working at the Shelby Mutual before pausing her career to raise her three sons.

After the boys were in school, Marilyn returned to the workforce at Shelby Insurance Company as an underwriter, retiring in 1992.

Marilyn loved to paint. For many years she, along with her family, would work for 10 to 11 months preparing for the Ontario Craft Show where she would often sell out of her creations. Painting on canvas was something she enjoyed as well. Along with her artistic talents, Marilyn was a wonderful baker and homemaker.

In her spare time she volunteered at Shelby Hospital and worked as a poll worker for the Richland County Board of Elections. She was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church.

Marilyn is survived by her husband of 67 years, Rudy Korbas, whom she wed on Sept. 23, 1950; 3 sons: Phil (Laurie) Korbas, Mark (Holly) Korbas, and Todd Korbas, all of Shelby; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren: Kevin (Bri) Korbas and their children, Millie and Kendall; Kraig (Abbey) Korbas and their children, Eli and Noah; Kurt (Rashelle) Korbas; Brad (Eliana) Korbas and Ashley (Billy) Belardo.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers: Jack Baker and Robert Elton Baker.
