Margaret Garrison never grumbled about roses having thorns, she was thankful that thorns had roses. Her 30 years as a beauty consultant balanced her work in establishing an area day camp for children with mental and physical challenges. Margaret saw beauty on the outside and on the inside.
A woman who invested so much of her time in others, Margaret Ann Garrison went to be with her Lord and Savior Monday, January 6, 2014 in Sterling House of Mansfield. She was 86.
Born in Shelby November 21, 1927 she was the only child of John and Ada (Swartz) Sharp. After graduating from Shelby High School she met Donald Garrison while attending college and they were married on January 26, 1946.
While raising her children, Margaret was a Girl Scout leader and a bus driver for Lexington Schools for 11 years and started a day camp for the mentally and physically challenged in Mansfield. She also sold Mary Kay cosmetics for 30 years and was considered by her friends and family to be a āprofessional volunteerā. When she was 54, and living with her daughter Barb in Columbus, she took a job at the Ohio State University Hospital with patient services. She retired from the OSU Medical Center after 21 years.
In spare time, Margaret enjoyed watching the birds and tending to her garden. She thoroughly loved spending time with her grandchildren and her pets.
Margaret was a recent member of Christ Lutheran Church in Lexington and a former member of First English Lutheran Church in Mansfield.
She is survived by her daughters Barb Garrison of Mansfield, Debra Garrison & Amy Weiner of Fairfield, CA, and Brenda Munro of Mansfield; three grandchildren Tyler, Alissa, and Chase Munro all of Mansfield; a sister-in-law Carol Garrison and a niece Jill Gustavson.
In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Don Garrison in 1980 and son John Garrison in 1999.
Her family will receive friends 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, January 16, 2014 in Christ Lutheran Church, 159 Frederick Street, Lexington 44904, where a service honoring her life will be held immediately following at 6 p.m. Pastor Marilou Brook will officiate and private burial will be held in the spring at Mansfield Memorial Park.
