Loren Ernsberger

Loren George Ernsberger, of Loudonville, lived a full life and reached his goal of living to 90 years of age, passing away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 19, 2014 in Hospice of North Central Ohio, Ashland. 

He was born in Mansfield on Nov. 19, 1924 and was the son of the late Paul and Catherine (Baughman) Ernsberger.  After attending school in Ontario, Loren joined the Civilian Conservation Corps at age 17 and worked his way around the United States.  In 1943 he entered the US Army and served in the European Theater under the command of General George S. Patton.  Loren rarely spoke of his military service but was awarded medals for bravery and sharpshooting.  He led a construction crew of US soldiers building bridges and buildings under combat conditions in France, Luxemburg, Belgium, Germany and Austria.  After the war he assisted in the construction of the Ontario General Motors Plant, was subsequently hired as an employee, and retired in 1986 after 30 years of employment.

Loren is survived by his wife, Lorene E. (Haas) Ernsberger, whom he married March 25, 1951; 5 children:  Suzanne (Louis) Posluszny of Crete, IL, Jeanette Danescu of Gambier,  Art Ernsberger of Mansfield, Islah “Laura” (Aser) Al’Khateeb of Toledo, and Barb (Albert) Lape of Loudonville; 6 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and 3 half-sisters:  Marge, Pat, and Penny.  He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers:  Edwin and Richard Ernsberger; and 2 half-brothers:  Paul and Robert Ernsberger.

Friends and family may visit Monday, Nov. 24 from noon until 1 p.m. in Lindsey Funeral Home, Loudonville.  Graveside military services will be held at 1:30 PM in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Lucas, conducted by the American Legion Post 257 and the VFW Post 8586.  Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio, 1050 Dauch Drive, Ashland, OH 44805.  Online condolences may be left for the Ernsberger family by visiting www.byerly-lindsey.com .
