Lloyd Eugene Hull

“This is the day the LORD has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it!” (Psalm 118:24) Lloyd kept his pocket full of small coins stamped with that verse. He gave them away freely to anyone who needed a message of hope and happiness.

Lloyd Hull, age 90, passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2014 in Hospice House in Ashland following an extended illness.

Lloyd was born February 8, 1923 in Licking County to parents John S. and Leontine M. (Jewel) Hull. He was graduated from Fredericktown High School with the class of 1941 and two years later joined the Army to serve his country as a Corporal during WWII. For his service he earned 4 battle stars and a good conduct medal. A few months after his discharge Lloyd married Virginia Ilene Clever on April 10, 1946 and together they raised 5 children.

He was a skilled carpenter and worked for, Smith’s Hardware, the Post Office, Collins Meat & Food Market, and most notably PPG Industries in Mt. Vernon from where he retired after 31 years in 1976. In free time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with family and friends.

Lloyd was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bellville and a life member of the VFW.

He is survived by 3 sons and their spouses: Larry & Diane Hull of Bellville, Robert & Lynn Hull of Bellville, and Martin & Debbie Hull of Shelby; a daughter-in-law Cheryl Cummings of Altamonte Springs, FL; 7 grandchildren and spouses: Tammy & Joe Copley of Ontario, Tim & Heather Hull of Bellville, Laura & Brian Peugh of Fredericktown, Amy McBride & Dana Tuttle of Plymouth, Billy Hull of Orlando, FL, Scott & Britni Hull of Ashland, and Brian Hull of Shelby; 12 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters: Ila Butler of Wooster and Mary Ellen Boucher of Mt. Vernon; sisters-in-law Geraldine Leedy and Vera Clifton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife and constant companion of 63 years Virginia Hull on November 28, 2009; a son Dan Hull; a daughter Vicki Hull; brothers Myers and William Hull; sister Shirley Ewalt; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Marcel Boucher, Eugene Leedy, John Ewalt, Cleva Butler, Howard & Melzene Clever, and Bob & Mary Clever.

A memorial service celebrating his life (along with the life of his daughter, Vicki Hull, who passed away January 12, 2014) will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, February 8, 2014 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 48 Church Street in Bellville. Friends may call an hour before the service or remain at the church for continued fellowship following the graveside committal. Pastor Doug Pretorius will officiate and burial will be held in Bellville Cemetery with military honors performed by Irvin Hiskey Post #535 American Legion of Bellville.
