Lloyd "Ben" Bennethum

Lloyd W. “Ben” Bennethum entered eternal rest on Sunday evening August 30, 2015 from Mill Creek Nursing Center in Galion.

Lloyd was born on February 28, 1923 in Cincinnati to Rev. Glenn O. Bennethum and Grace M. (Newman) Bennethum.

Lloyd graduated from Sunbury High School in 1941. He proudly served in the United States Army during World War II in the European Theater of Operations.

On October 10, 1948 Lloyd married Martha Beamer in Jeromesville in a ceremony solemnized by his father, the Rev. Glenn O. Bennethum. Martha and Lloyd were blessed to have shared over 65 years of marriage before Martha’s death on July 26, 2014.

Lloyd or “Ben” (as he was best known to many) was employed in retail sales with most of those years in management. Ben retired from Richland Plumbing & Supply in Ontario. After retirement he worked for several years at the former Neff Brothers Market in Galion.

Ben was a voracious reader, enjoying topics such as history, current events and sports. An avid sports fan, Ben enjoyed slo-pitch softball and participated even into his 60’s.

Ben was a member of the Blooming Grove United Methodist Church. For many years previously he was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church until its closing. He was involved there in various committees, was head usher, president of the United Methodist’s Men’s group for many years and played on the church dartball and softball teams.

Lloyd is survived by daughter Carolyn (Tom) Dalrymple of Denton, Texas and son Mike Bennethum of Galion; granddaughter Susan Dalrymple (William) Ely of Roanoke, Texas; grandson Matt Dalrymple of California; brother-law and sister-in-law Lowell and Shirley Bear of West Chester; brothers-in-law Wayne Beamer of Manteca, Calif. and Darrel Beamer of Laredo, Texas; sister-in-law Joann Beamer of Holland and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Lloyd was preceded by sister Carol and her husband Tom Williams; brothers-in-law Dale Beamer and Glenn Beamer; brothers and sisters-in-law Tom and Ethel Frost and James and Wanda Courtad and sisters-in-law Gloria Beamer, Thena Beamer and Natalia Beamer.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2015 at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833 where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 3 with Pastors Terry Burkhardt and Patricia Fruth officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Galion.

Full military honors will be conducted by the United States Army and Galion Crestline Veterans Military Funeral Detail.
