Leonard Knuckles

An avid gardener, each growing season Leonard Knuckles cultivated, planted and nurtured his amazing vegetables. As a husband, dad and grandpa, Leonard more importantly invested in the growth of his family.

Dedicated to his family, Leonard Knuckles, 91, of Bellville passed away Thursday, Feb. 18, 2016 in Knox Community Hospital, Mount Vernon, following a short illness.

The son of James and Lilly (Napier) Knuckles, Leonard was born July 5, 1924 in Pineville, Kentucky.

On Dec. 23, 1944 Leonard married Joyce Wilson and the two celebrated 63 years of marriage. In 1967 their family moved from Kentucky to rural Bellville.

He loved the outdoors, hunting, and vacationing at his family’s cabin in Kentucky. He enjoyed cheering for the Ohio State Buckeyes. Leonard was a faithful member of Perry Church of Christ where he served as deacon.

He is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Walter and Roberta Knuckles, of Bellville; Tommy and Alice Knuckles, of Ontario; Robert and Marcia Knuckles, of Bellville; Mike and Anita Knuckles, of Bellville; daughter-in-law Brenda Knuckles, of Fredericktown; grandchildren and their spouses Thomas and Rhonda Knuckles, Brady Knuckles, Nathan Knuckles, Andy and Katie Knuckles, Ryan and Victoria Knuckles, Stefan Knuckles, Lisa and Kevin Briggs, Karen and Scott Russell, Robin and Tom Hager, Amy Knuckles and Carly and Chris Black; 13 great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; siblings Ellen Porter, Ray Knuckles, and Dorothy Spears; nieces and nephews and extended family.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Joyce Knuckles on April 5, 2008; son Herman Knuckles on Aug. 16, 2002; a great granddaughter; two sisters and six brothers.

The family will receive friends Sunday, Feb. 21, 2016 from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home, where the funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. Pastors Vinton Morgan and Leroy Bumpus will officiate. Burial will follow in Perry Township Cemetery.

Memorial contributions to Perry Church of Christ may be made at the funeral home.
