Leonard J. Goddard, 89, of Mansfield, passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2015, following a lengthy illness.

Leonard was born on April 20, 1926, in Mansfield, to Darl A. and Sylvia (Newland) Goddard. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, proudly serving his country in WWII. Leonard retired after 38 years, from Tappan Co. He attended Mayflower Congregational Church, and enjoyed his collection of model trains. He enjoyed being with his family, being outside with yardwork, and helping others.

Leonard is survived by his wife of 67 years, Donna (Joseph) Goddard, whom he married on September 6, 1947. Also surviving are two children, Dale (Gala) Goddard of Bellville and Kathy (York) Oswalt of Mansfield; four granddaughters, Aimee Jerger, Colleen (Adam) Decaire, Emily Oswalt, and Amanda Oswalt; seven great-grandchildren, Patrick Jerger, Alex Jerger, Zane Jerger, Mackenzie Jerger, Zachary Decaire, Ryan Decaire, and Zoey Decaire; one brother-in-law, Jim Joseph of Mansfield; three sisters-in-law, Phyllis (Dick) Erndt of WA, Roz Joseph of Mansfield, and Virginia Goddard of SC; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Steven J. Goddard on December 14, 2014; four siblings, Russell and Irene Goddard, Betty Moore, Thelma Nacke, and Robert Goddard; one sister-in-law, Joann Jospeh; and one brother-in-law, Eugene Joseph.

Calling hours will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10, 2015, at Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, ltd, 1106 Park Ave East. Memorial services will follow at 1 p.m. with Military Honors being performed by the Richland Co. Joint Veterans Burial Detail. Burial will be at Mansfield Memorial Park.
