Kenneth Stephens

Kenneth Stephens, age 78, resident of Shiloh, died Monday, March 9, 2015, at his home following a brief illness.

Born October 25, 1936 in Magoffin County, Kentucky to Arthur and Mollie (Vanderpool) Stephens he was a Shiloh area resident the majority of his life. Kenneth was a truck driver with Plymouth Locomotive retiring in 1998. He was a member of the United Baptist Church in Shiloh.

An avid race car fan, his greatest passion was Sprint car racing. He raced for 51 years and was the driver of “Tweety Bird”, car #6. When he wasn’t on the race track, he could be found working in his garage where, many nights, supper would be delivered. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren where his pride and joy and he cherished spending time with them. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife, Alberta (Sexton) Stephens, whom he married August 18, 1956; his children, Kenneth David (Linda) Stephens, Darlene Tackett, Sherry (Shannon) Perry and Penny (Ted) Zachariah, 11 grandchildren including, Berta and Brad Crose, whom he raised; 11 great-grandchildren, including his special side-kick, Trevor; ten siblings, Charles Stephens, Franklin Stephens, James Stephens, Gladys Fliger, Florence Crawford, Lula Sexton, Clara Sexton, Betty Goble, Alma Kegley, and Wanda Alonzo, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Bruce Stephens, two daughters, Kimmie Stephens Perez and Christine Stephens and grandson, Marcos Perez.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, March 13, 2015, at the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby. Reverend Delmar Bailey will officiate with interment in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Shiloh. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Barkdull Funeral Home, P.O. Box 644, Shelby, OH 44875 to help defray funeral expenses.
