Judith “Judy” A. Huffman

Judith “Judy” A. Huffman, 80, of Galion passed away Friday, October 3, 2014 surrounded by her family at Galion Community Hospital.

Born February 1, 1934 in Willard, she was the daughter of Floydg and Marjorie (NcNerney) Bricker. She married Burnell “B” Huffman, Jr. on May 3, 1958 and he survives.

She was a graduate of Shelby High School in 1952 and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Galion. She worked at the Galion Inquirer and later at the Galion Public Library where she retired as the Children’s Librarian. Judy served as a brownie leader, volunteered for over 30 years for The Red Cross, volunteered at Galion City Schools and chaperoned many school functions. She taught Red Cross swimming lessons until two years ago at the age of 78.

She was a “Domestic Goddess” according to her seven daughters and all the kids that knew her as they grew up. Judy tended to many grandchildren and great grandchildren and was a second mom to many of her nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband she is survived by daughters Kathy Sage, Karen Stitzel, Jeanne (David) Kuns , Joan (Marty) Estes, all of Galion, Jennifer (Tony) Maples of Clearwater, Fla, Kelly (Doug) Schimpf of Bucyrus and Kerri (Bill) Ganshorn of Galion; 14 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; sister Mary Kay Towner of Calif. and brother Terry (Cheryl) Bricker of Crestline.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers and one son-in-law.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, October 8, 2014 for fellowship at the St. Joseph Activity Center, 115 North Liberty St in Galion. A Memorial Mass will be held 3:30 p.m. Thursday, October 9, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father John Miller officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 230 E. Ohio St., Chicago, IL 60611, Galion Public Library, 123 N. Market St., Galion, OH 44833 or Galion Chapter of the American Red Cross, 124 N. Union St., Galion, OH 44833.
