John D. Sparks, 55, of Galion, died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, April 21, 2016.
John was born in Crestline, on Oct. 23, 1960 to the late William Sparks and Ann B. (Henry) Sparks-Heimlich, of Galion. He was preceded in death by his step-father Charlie Heimlich. He married Glinda G. Young on June 13, 2002 in Marion and she survives him.
John was a very active member of Wesley Chapel, Galion. He was employed by Opex Corporation in Columbus as an electronic technician. He had previously worked for Snap On Tools.
John graduated from Galion High School in 1979 and was elected speaker of his class. John then went on to graduate from North Central Technical College, Mansfield with a degree in electronics. A member of the Crawford County Sportsman’s Club, he enjoyed shooting guns at the shooting range. A wonderful husband and father, John was happiest when spending time with his wife and daughters. John also had a passion for photography and computers, and was known for his love for animals.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his daughters Rebecca Sparks and Abby Sparks, at home, his nieces and nephews, William Ted Sparks, Matthew Troy Sparks, Connie (Michael) Sandelin, Kevin Troy Sparks, Kyle Steven Sparks, his brother Steven and Debra Sparks, of New Philadelphia, his step-brother Steven Heimlich, his step-sisters Linda Bogolis and Laura Snyder.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Tim Sparks and step-sister, Susan Tucker.
Friends may call Monday, April 25, 2016 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way N., Galion. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 25 at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Galion with Rev. Joe Stafford officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Galion.
In honor of John’s memory and his love for animals, memorial contributions may be made to Crawford County Humane Society or to A Special Wish Foundation in care of the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way North, Galion.
