Jean Lohr, 91, longtime resident of Shelby died Tuesday, July 1, 2014, in Elmcroft Assisted Living in Ontario. 

Born Nov. 23, 1922, in Shelby to Lester and Margaret (Swartz) Amstutz, she had been a Shelby area resident the majority of her life. Mrs. Lohr was a 1940 graduate of Tiro High School and a member of the First Lutheran Church. Jean was a very caring, giving person who never met a stranger. She had been actively involved with New Hope in Mansfield and was a recipient of the Jess Rath Award.

Survivors include two brothers; Wendell (Naomi) Amstutz of Shelby and Paul (Adella) Amstutz of Dawsonville, GA; three sisters, Shirley (Jim) Stine of Shelby, Connie Dickey of Bucyrus and Deanna (Tom) Wilcox of Tiro, two sisters-in-law Jacqueline Amstutz of Attica and Margaret Amstutz of Mt. Vernon; nieces, nephews and special friend, Mary Kay Murphy of Shelby. 

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Forest G. Lohr in 1997; one daughter, Marcia K. Lohr in 1998; five brothers, Darwin, Lester, David, Don and Roger Amstutz and two sisters, Sharon Amstutz and Beverly Zeiters and brother-in-law Rich Dickey. 

Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday July 5, 2014 at the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby. Pastor Russel Yoak will officiate with interment in Oakland Cemetery. Friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home Saturday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Memorials may be made to the First Lutheran Church and Hospice of NCO.
