James W. “Jim” McElvain, Jr., 62, of Mansfield, passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at his residence.

Jim was born on July 22, 1951, in Mansfield, to James W., Sr., and Mary A. Shrewsberry McElvain. He was a Union Business Rep. and was employed through OCSEA. Jim enjoyed fishing, boating, working in the yard, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra Jean Gleisinger McElvain; two daughters, Mary Ann Elias of Calcutta, OH and Wendy Leigh McElvain of Youngstown; two step-daughters, Kelly Barnes of Youngstown and Shelli (Wes) Jackson of Mansfield; twelve grand-children; one great-grandchild and one on the way; five siblings, Michael (Mary) McElvain of Kingsport, Donald (Kathy) McElvain of Mansfield, Dennis McElvain of Louisville, KY, Kathy (Chuck) Smith of Fredericktown, and Richard McElvain (Mary Jo Shaffer) of Fredericktown; and his beloved dog, Buddy.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and sister-in-law, Carol McElvain.

Calling hours will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, LTD., 1106 Park Avenue East (St. Rt. 430E), Mansfield. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at the funeral home with Jim’s grandson, Pastor Logan Mabe officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
