James “Nip” Harlan Shoulders Sr., 83, passed this life on Thursday, Feb, 8, 2018 in Ohio Health MedCentral Mansfield Hospital after a brief illness.

Mr. Shoulders was born on Sunday, Dec. 16, 1934 to the late Everett and Gatha Belle (Smith) Shoulders in Canton, Ohio and came to Mansfield as a child. He was a former employee of the City of Mansfield retiring in 1997 after 40 years of service as a Mechanic serving in the Waste Water Treatment Plant as his last assignment.

Nip enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, boating and camping taking his children until they became teenagers. 

Nip is survived by 3 daughters: Judy Shoulders- Owensby, Jacqueline Shoulders, and Beverly (Willie) Clark all of Mansfield: 11 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren: 3 sisters: Jean Shoulders, Rita Shoulders, and Barbara Coleman all of Mansfield. 

In addition to his parents, Nip was preceded in death by his wife Beverly in May of 2017, son James Jr., three sisters Dorothy Elder, Judy and Linda Shoulders, six brothers Charles “Moody,” Clarence “Coke,” George, Oscar, Richard “Wiggs,” and Junior Shoulders.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, at 11 a.m. in the Ruth Anna Lee Williams Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Services by Pastor Jeff Jones of First Baptist Church Family Center. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 10 to 11 a.m. one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will be in Mansfield Cemetery.
