Isabelle Bray

Isabelle A. Bray, 82, of Hilliard, died suddenly, Thursday, Sept. 11, 2014 at her home.

Isabelle was born in Logansport, Indiana on Sept. 23, 1931 to the late Edwin and Isabelle (Schull) Moore.

She graduated from Crestline High School in 1949.  Isabelle was a member of the St. Brendan’s Catholic Church, Hilliard and a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Crestline.  At St. Brendan’s Catholic Church, she was a member of the GIFT (Growing in Faith Together) Group, Women’s Club, MAST, and attended a Women’s Retreat with her daughter-in-law.  At St. Joseph Catholic Church she belonged to the Altar and Rosary Society, served as a Lector and Communion Distributor, sang in the choir, and helped with funeral luncheons.  She also belonged to a Bridge Card Club in Hilliard.  From 1989 to 2004, Isabelle worked as a receptionist at Dr. Liu’s office.  Her flowers were always beautiful and she enjoyed working in her flower gardens.  Isabelle was proud of her children, and enjoyed spending time with her family, and her dogs.  She loved attending her grandchildren’s school and sports functions.  Seeing her family happy made her happy and she loved to celebrate with them.  She never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone. Isabelle loved to read, travel, crafts, and sewing.  She even made her own drapes and upholstered furniture.  And Isabelle could cook!  Her peanut butter fudge was a favorite, along with her Christmas cookies.  She also enjoyed painting and took a class where she made pictures which she gave to others.  Another of her past times was watching the game show network.  She loved horses and when she was able, she enjoyed horseback riding.

She is survived by her son John and Nona Bray, Crestline and her three daughters, Dr. Mary Bray De Reyes and Francisco Reyes, Brooklyn, NY, Barbara and Paul “Skip” Mateicka, Frankfort, IL, and Karen and Angelo Graham, Hilliard; 14 grandchildren, Taunya, Artie, Edwin, Chelsea, Carmen, Andrea, Urte, Jim, Joe, Daniel, Deanna, Katherine, Nicholas, and Joshua; four great-grandchildren; her former husband, Joseph F. Bray of Hilliard; and three cousins, Joanne Shearer, Logansport, IN, Janet Coddington, Sun City, AZ, and Eugene Leazenby of Florida.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Moore.

Friends may call Sunday, Sept. 14, 2014 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Crestline.  A Vigil Service will be held at the funeral home at 6 p.m. Sunday with Deacon Bill Horning officiating.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 15 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Crestline with Father Chris Bohnsack, Celebrant.  Burial will follow in Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Crestline.
