Howard William Guegold

A gentle heart is really the strongest force on earth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things (1 Cor 13:7). Of the many traits Howard Guegold will be remembered, his gentle heart will be his legacy.

The Lord stilled Howard’s earthly heart, and called him into His presence Friday evening, Dec. 16, 2016 from his son’s rural Lucas home. He was 84.

Born Sept. 5, 1932 in Mansfield to parents Oscar and Martha (Stahnke) Guegold, Howard was graduated from Mansfield Senior High School.

He served two years in the U.S. Army with the military police. Discharged from the military in the summer of 1953, in November of that year, he married Beverly Lacey, and they were blessed with four children. He supported his family as a carpenter – a skill that served him his whole life – modeled after his Master.

An avid small-game hunter, Howard was also social, enjoying dance nights at Lucky Larry’s at the Masonic Temple.

He attended Berean Baptist Church.

Howard is survived by his children Martha and Marlen Haynes, of Melbourne, Florida, Cynthia and Larry Finley, of Bellville, Howie and Lisa Guegold, of Lucas, and Lisa and Tom Foster, of Fort Wayne, Indiana; 22 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law George and Dixie Guegold, of Mansfield, sisters-in-law Jean Guegold and Doris Guegold, both of Mansfield; and a large extended family.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Beverly on Aug. 6, 2000. Also deceased are two grandchildren, brothers Floyd, Lloyd, and Bob Guegold and sisters Diane and Deloris Guegold.

The Guegold family will receive friends Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2016 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, where the funeral service celebrating his life will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. His son-in-law Tom Foster will officiate.

Military honors by Amercan Legion Post #535 will follow and burial will be in Mansfield Cemetery.

Contributions in his memory to the Berean Baptist Church Funeral Dinner Ministry may be made at the funeral home.
