Herbert L. “Herb” McBride

Herbert McBride knew that going back to a simpler life was not a step backward. He understood that modern conveniences and technology were a blessing, but could never replace one on one relationships, time spent with family and friends, or appreciation for God’s creation.

A simple man with respect for traditional values, Herb passed away Tuesday morning Aug. 28, 2018 in his home. He was 89.

Herbert L. “Herb” McBride

He was born July 18, 1929 in Shelby the son of Chester and Mary Ann (Biedel) McBride and was graduated from Springfield High School (now Ontario) in 1947.

A proud serviceman of the Ohio National Guard Herb served in the Air Force Reserve 164th Fighter Bomber Squadron in Mansfield for a total of six years of service.

Early in his career Herb worked at R.E. MoorHead and Son Ford as the parts manager, but worked mostly as a truck driver. He held tenure at Schlairet Transfer Co. and also had his own trucking company. He eventually retired from Yellow Freight Trucking in 1994 with over 40 years of experience in the trucking industry. He was a member of Teamsters Local #40.

On Nov. 12, 1960 he married Sandra Sheehe with whom he celebrated 57 years. Described as a kind giving husband, Herb dearly loved Sandra and was an exemplary father to their children.

Some may say Herb was “Old School” since he barley used the computer and wasn’t enamored with technology. More than anything he enjoyed being outdoors, mowing, trimming or cutting wood. Never one to text or use social media, he would rather meet his friends at McDonalds for a cup of coffee or gather the family for a meal.

He enjoyed old cars and attending car shows. He and Sandy often going for a drive in his ’66 Ford Galaxy 500 with the convertible top down.

A sweet family man, Herb will be dearly missed by his loving wife Sandra McBride, daughter Darlene and John Bohland of Lexington, son Jeff McBride of Mansfield; five grandsons Jeremy and Victoria Bohland, Michael and Bristen Bohland, Matthew and Kelly Bohland, and Collin and Chase McBride; three great grandchildren who called him “Papa” Gracie, Grant and Tori; and a brother Willard and Norma McBride of Galion.

In addition to his parents, Herb was preceded in death by siblings Louis McBride and Doris Hoover.

Friends may call Saturday, Sept. 1, 2018 from 10 a.m. to noon in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home where the funeral service honoring the life of Herbert L. McBride will follow at noon. Celebrant Dave Roberts will speak and burial will follow in Bellville Cemetery.
