Herbert G. Stiffler, 88, of Crestline, died Monday, June 6, 2016 at the Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, after complications sustained from surgery.

Herb was born in Crestline on Jan. 26, 1928 to the late Guy E. and Margaret B. (Krichbaum) Stiffler. He married Joan L. Krichbaum on July 10, 1949 and she preceded him in death on Nov. 19, 2015. 

Herb lived in Crestline all of his life and was a Crestline High School graduate, Class of 1946. Herb then served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp. for three years. Afterwards, he worked at Timken Company in Bucyrus as a machine operator, retiring after 30 years.

Herb was a member of the Calvary United Church of Christ, Crestline, the American Legion Post 488, Crestline, the NRA, the Galion Lodge #414 (Free and Accepted Mason), the Grand Chapter Arch Mason of Ohio, the Men’s Garden Club at Kingwood Center and served on the Greenlawn Cemetery Board. He enjoyed gardening, mowing at the farm, canning, and his orchard. Herb loved animals – especially dogs. 

He is survived by his special nieces; Barb and Ed Perry, of Crestline, Shirley Bauer, of Crestline, Joyce and John McKenzie, of Crestline, Debbie Lucas, of Mansfield, several great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews, his brother-in-law, Paul and Barbara Krichbaum, of Florida, his sister-in-law, Judy Ellen Kalb, of Georgia, special friends, Linda Byerly, Betty Ford and many more. 

In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his sister, Violet Blaising.

Friends may call Thursday, June 9, 2016 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, 223 West Main St., Crestline. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 10, 2016 at Calvary United Church of Christ, Crestline, with Rev. Gary Proietti officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Crestline where full military honors will be rendered by the U.S. Marine Corp and the Galion-Crestline Veterans Military Funeral Detail. 

Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary United Church of Christ, Crestline, or the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in care of the funeral home.
