Harold Gardner

Harold D. Gardner, 90, Galion, passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at Galion Community Hospital, Galion, surrounded by his family.

Harold was born in Morrow County on April 2, 1924 to the late Willard and Luva E. (George) Gardner.  He married Artis M. Gundrum on October 21, 1962 and she preceded him in death on February 12, 1979.

He retired from GTE after 41 years of employment.  In his younger years, he helped tend the family farm. An avid motorcycle rider in his younger years, he also loved classic cars. Harold loved being outdoors.   Visiting with friends was his favorite pastime.  The more friends and family around him the better it was for telling stories.  Harold always made everyone laugh and would always tell the best stories from his life. Never knowing a stranger, Harold welcomed everyone with open arms.

He is survived by his son John Gardner, Galion, his two grandchildren Lindi Osborn and John James “JJ” Gardner, his great-granddaughter Madelynn Smith, his brother Gerald & Judy Gardner, Ocala, FL, his niece Terry & Ron Fockler, Paulding, his nephew Jerry & April Gardner, Lima, his great niece Betsy & Trent Daniels, Paulding, his great-great niece and nephew Skylar and Gage Daniels, many cousins and extended family, and many friends that he considered family.

In addition to his wife, Artis, he was preceded in death by his son Ronald D. Gardner, December 1989 and his beloved dog Lucky.

Friends may call Monday, March 23, 2015 from 2 – 4 p.m. and 7– 9 p.m. at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way North, Galion.  Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24 at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Galion, with Pastor Mark Schaeufele and Rev. Darrin Harvey officiating.  Burial will follow in Iberia Cemetery, Iberia.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice in care of the funeral home.
