Gloria Ann Baker

Gloria Ann Baker, 79, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday, June 4, 2017 in her Lexington home following a long illness.

She was born Aug. 12, 1937 to parents James A. and Awretha (Straub) Walker in Mansfield. Gloria graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1955.

On July 25, 1956, she married Kenneth Wayne Baker and together they settled in Lexington and raised four sons. Gloria was one of the first women in serve on an emergency squad in Ohio and continued working as a dispatcher for five years with Troy Township.

In spare time, she took pleasure in reading all kinds of books — especially Christian book series. She was an excellent cook and a family favorite was steak with gravy and mac’n’cheese. She was a faithful Steelers’ fan and will be remembered as a patient and honest woman who was always supportive of her husband and boys.

Gloria was a member of New Life Church of Christ in Bellville and also attended Lexington Church of Christ. She was a gifted singer and pianist and enjoyed singing and playing for the church choir.

She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Ken Baker, of Lexington; three sons Jim & Ann Baker, of Hawthorn Woods, Illinois, Clint Baker & fiancée Valorie Vincent, of Brandon, Florida, and Tim and Michelle Baker, of Windermere, Florida; grandchildren Mia Baker, Rebecca Baker, Andrew and DeeDee Baker, Chelsea Baker, Simon Baker, Mary and Brad Browning, Ashley and Manuel Molion, Hillary and Oscar Torres, Hayley Baker, Brandon Baker, and Kristin Baker; great-grandchildren Reece, Rhett, Brady, and Briana; and two sisters Janet and Ron Bolesky of Lexington and Ethel Hoffman of Mansfield.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son Ray Baker, sister Lee Spitzer, and brothers-in-law Kip Calendine and Edward Spitzer.

Her family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2017 in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, where a funeral service giving glory to God for Gloria’s life will be held at 11 a.m.Thursday. Friends are invited to call the hour before the service, Pastors Pat Hartson and T.J. Waters will officiate, and burial will follow in North Fork Cemetery.
