Glen Sand

Glen Eugene Sand, 88 years, of Marion, passed away peacefully at Kobacker House in Columbus after a brief illness.

He was born November 25, 1926 in Crawford County, son of Milton and Garnet (Smith) Sand. Glen married Beverly Finical on November, 28, 1948 and she survives him.

Surviving are two daughters, Linda (Scott) Nightingale of Sylvania and Andra (John) Bell of Center Valley, PA. A son Randall Eugene preceded him in death. Also surviving, four grandchildren Adam Nightingale of Toledo, John (Nicole) Nightingale of Pickerington, Philip (Anne) Nightingale of Columbus and Lisa (James) Nightingale Leale of Ewa Beach, HI and five great grandchildren Jason, Evan, Molly, Joseph and Carson, two brothers, Richard (Winnie) Sand and Robert Sand, both of Bucyrus and two sisters Margery Rogers of Bucyrus and Marilyn (Don) Tippin of Stockbridge, MI. He was preceded in death by three brothers John, Wilbur and Earl and two sisters Marguerite Feichtner and Karen Bruce.

Glen served his country in the U.S. Navy in World War II as a signalman. As a stone and brick mason, he took as much pride and care in his craft as he did raising and loving his family. An avid golfer, he loved the game and the lessons it offered about life; patience, persistence and hard work are rewarded. Even though soft-spoken and small in stature, he commanded a strong presence and gained the respect from those around him for his generous way with people and the artistry he exhibited in his work.

Friends may call Friday, July 24, 2015 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way North, Galion. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, July 24 at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Galion, with Pastor Kevin Tippin officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Galion. Full military honors will be given by the U.S. Navy and the Galion Crestline Veteran’s Military Burial Detail.
