Gertrude Garverick, 102, of Powell, and formally of Galion, died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017 at her home at Abbington of Powell.
Mrs. Garverick was born in Crestline, on Nov. 19, 1914 to the late Adam B. and I. Maude (Shambaugh) Rinehart. She married Henry A. Garverick on Dec. 24, 1940 and he preceded her in death on Aug. 23, 2004.
She graduated from Crestline High School in 1931 at the age of 16. She was a homemaker and farmer’s wife. Mrs. Garverick was an active member of the Christ United Methodist Church.
She was retired as a cashier from Charlie’s Market and formerly worked at Ritchey’s in Galion. Mrs. Garverick was a member of the Eastern Star, Eagles Auxiliary, and a 4-H advisor for over 25 years. She also enjoyed crocheting newborn caps and lap robes for the Galion Hospital. She lived in her home in Galion until she was 98 years old.
She is survived by her children, Dr. H. Allen (Genelle) Garverick, of Redington Shores, Florida, Tom (Carol) Garverick, of Dublin, Kay (Carl) Teagardner, of Supply, North Carolina, and Barbara (Merrill) Sipes, of Columbus; her grandchildren, Stacey (Devon) Jones, Allyson (Jeffrey) Rhodes, Philip (Vanessa) Garverick, Brandon (Karen) Sipes, Jason (Karin) Sipes, Anna (Sean) Penner; and her great grandchildren, William and Ollie Rhodes, Harper Garverick, Erik, Adam, and Ryan Sipes, Mattisyn Womeldorf, Lily, Evie, and Arthur Penner.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Edwin Rinehart, infant brother, Harry Rinehart, infant sister, Naomi Rinehart, Cleon Rinehart, Leona Rader, Geneva Hoffman, Irene Bailey, and Milford Rinehart.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 3, 2017 at the Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way North, Galion. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017 with Pastor Jerry Penrod Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Galion.
