Geraldine Marie Ward

I will declare that your love stands firm forever, that you established your faithfulness in heaven itself (Psalm 89.2). The matriarch of her family, Geraldine Ward was her family’s spiritual chord. A faithful Christian, she exemplified love, joy, peace, patience, and kindness. Even into her 90’s, Geraldine’s demeanor was uplifting and positive regardless of her circumstances.

No longer bound to her earthly body, Geraldine Marie Ward, 93, of Bellville, passed away at home, Tuesday evening, May 6, 2014.

The daughter of Ira and Ethel (Morgan) McDanel, Geraldine was born September 19, 1920 on the family farm, on Rinehart Road, in Bellville. Although her family did have a telephone, growing up Geraldine was without electricity. Content, she enjoyed walking from the farm to school in Bellville.

She graduated from Bellville High School in 1938. On August 9, 1941 she married Howard Ward. Always a supportive wife, Geraldine relocated with Howard while he served in the military. Following Howard’s military service, the two settled back in Bellville.

In her 20’s she worked for Dominion and later on, at Keil’s, a ladies department store, in Bellville.

A lifetime member of the Bellville Church of Christ, now New Life Church of Christ, as a child she assisted the ladies in working the food table during the Bellville Street Fair. Over the years Geraldine served as Sunday school teacher, secretary, and janitor.

Geraldine is survived by her son and daughter-in-law John and Marilyn Ward of Bellville; grandchildren B.J. and Tomi Ward of Mt. Vernon, Jamie and Stacy Ward of Fredericktown, and Way Ward of Bellville; great granddaughter Reagan, great grandson Ransom and a great grandson on the way, Briar; sister Ruth Ward of Bellville; nephew Paul and Cheryl Ward of Atlanta, niece Cathy Ward of Mansfield.

She was preceded in death by her husband Howard Ward, brother-in-law Charles Ward and nephew Dennis Ward.
