With the saddest of hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Geneva (Stephens) Hedrick.
Geneva was born in the spring of 1928 in Magoffin County, Kentucky, where she survived the Great Depression years with her parents and 11 siblings. She moved to the Kenton, Ohio area with her parents as a teenager where her father worked in Lima, building tanks at the Whirlpool factory.
She moved to Mansfield during World War II, where she worked at Dominion Electric building parts for the war efforts. This is where she met her husband of 62 years, Ralph Hedrick, who survives her. She is also survived by her children Robert, Ronald, Pamela, and Randal. She has four grandchildren and five great grandchildren, who she loved without end. Her brothers Bud and Mike and sisters Lucille, Bobbie and Angie remain in the Kenton area. Geneva was preceded in death by her brothers Curt, Hayward, Ollie, Junior and Mark as well as sister Eddie.
Geneva had only recently retired from the Mansfield Hospital after working 36 years as a housekeeper, where she had many friends and enjoyed bringing a little happiness and joy to the patients she came in contact with.
Geneva was a lifelong lover of animals, and especially her dogs, who are too many to name. She instilled this love in all of her children and is one of her greatest legacies. In honor of this legacy, the family asked that in lieu of flowers a contribution be made to the Humane Society of Richland County. Nothing would please her more.
Visiting hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016 at Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, 1106 Park Avenue East, Mansfield. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 9, 2016 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mansfield Memorial Park.
