Gary M. Meeks

Gary M. Meeks, of Easley, SC, and formerly of Butler, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2014 in Simpsonville Hospice Home. He was 74.

Born April 30, 1939 near Loudonville, Gary was the oldest son of Marvin and Wilma (Oswalt) Meeks, and was graduated from Butler High School in 1958.

He initially worked for ten years at The Ohio Brass Company and retired from the Teamsters after 33 years driving truck.

An avid hunter and fisherman, he had attended Bunkerhill Baptist Church and enjoyed traveling.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years Mary A. Meeks; their children Sherry Cockrell, Pam (Jack) Finley and Jon (Theresa) Meeks all of Easley; six grandchildren, two great grandchildren; siblings Elaine (Michael) Chillemi of Ochechobee, FL, Dave (Geri) Meeks of Bellville, Rod (Rita) Meeks of Butler, Nina Schmidt of Butler, Rusty (Peg) Meeks of Mansfield; a sister-in-law Carolyn Meeks of Butler; numerous nieces and nephews; and numerous cherished friends.

He was preceded in death by brothers Steve Meeks and Gerald “Bezz” Meeks.

The Meeks family will receive friends Saturday, May 3, 2014 from 10 a.m. to noon in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home. A graveside memorial service will follow in Bunkerhill Cemetery. Pastor Ken Kinley will officiate. In lieu of flowers, contributions to MedCentral Hospice may be made at the funeral home.
