Gary D. McAfee

Gary D. McAfee, 80, of Lucas, Ohio, passed away at his residence on December 15, 2020, surrounded by family after battling cancer.

He was born February 20, 1940, in Mansfield to Wayne and Thelma McAfee, who preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Pat O. McAfee; daughter, Julia (Baker) DeHaven and her husband Carl; daughter, Stacy (McAfee) Ortiz and her husband Ricky; granddaughters, Sydney DeHaven and Isabella Ortiz; grandsons, Lincoln DeHaven and Alexander Ortiz; brothers, Jim (Mary) and Bob McAfee; sisters, Joanne (Larry) Bridges and Michelle (Ernie) Mosier; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Bryan McAfee and a sister, Lecyll (Tom) Riley.

Gary was a graduate of Mansfield Senior High School in 1958 and joined the United States Marine Corps which he served for 4 years of active duty. Later in his career he was an engineer at Shiloh Tool & Die for several years and most recently retired from working at All American in his spare time finding joy in taking care of others. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather (PaPa) and friend. He loved the outdoors and some of his hobbies included hunting, golfing and history. He enjoyed spending time with his beloved family and friends; with an infectious smile and a way with people he was loved by many.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 17, 2021, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd. The memorial service conducted by Pastor James Berry will follow at 2:00 p.m. The Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Squad will present military honors at the end of the service. To keep everyone safe and following the governor's directives for Covid-19 protocols, all guests are required to wear a face covering and maintain social distancing.
