Evelyn D. Ploss, 82, Galion, died Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at Galion Pointe Nursing Home, after failing health.
She was born in Fredericktown on September 16, 1933 to the late Thomas and Florence (Dickin) Morton. She married Harold J. Ploss on February 14, 1957 and he preceded her in death on September 3, 1976.
Evelyn graduated from Iberia High School in 1951. She was a former member of the First United Methodist Church, Galion and the former American Legion of Iberia, as well as a Girl Scout leader. Evelyn was employed at Galion Iron Works and also worked as a typist with Charles Rose. She acted as secretary for some of her family reunions and was a member of both the Crawford County Genealogy Society and Business and Professional Women’s Foundation. Evelyn was an undoubtedly strong woman who stuck to her commitments and enjoyed creating art.
Evelyn is survived by her sister Maxine Gregory, Galion, her nephews Raymond (Ritchel “April”) Sipe, Galion, David Sipe, Galion, William (Vina) Sipe, Rapid City, SD, her niece Diana Johnson, Marion, her step-niece Diane Huffman, her step-nephews Jeff Keirns, James Dye, John Dye, and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughters, Cathy J. Ploss, Cynthia L. Ploss, her brother, Eugene Morton, and a sister, Anna Maye Sipe.
Friends may call Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way, Galion. Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Galion, with Pastor Jerry Penrod, Jr., officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Galion.
