Eva Gray

Eva M. Gray, 96, of Galion, passed away after a short illness Monday, November 10, 2014 at Magnolia Terrace, Galion.

Eva was born in Marion, on January 18, 1918 to the late George L. and Christina (Robinson) Byers.  She married Merle D. Gray in February 1940 and he preceded her in death in June 1987.

She graduated in 1936 from Marion Harding High School, Marion.  She was retired from Galion Iron Works.  Eva was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church, Galion. She was a dedicated volunteer at the Galion Community Hospital Auxiliary for twenty-five years.   Eva enjoyed knitting, making many baby hats and lap robes for the hospital.  She also volunteered in the cafeteria at the hospital.  Eva was very independent and learned to drive at the age of 69.

She is survived by her daughter Cindy (Denny) Davis, Galion, her step-son Thomas (Alice) Gray, Arlington Heights, IL, her two grandchildren Paul (Lisa) McCleese, and Angela (Brian) Owens, her two great-grandchildren Brevin and Drew Owens, her five step-grandchildren Thomas Gray, Jr., Amy Gray, Kim Manser, Kate Gleixner, and Molly Richard, her two step great-grandchildren Brandon (Christine) Bradshaw and Cassie Christie, and many good friends.

She was preceded in death by her son David Gray in February 1970, her step-son Keith Gray, her step-grandson Keith Gray, Jr., her two brothers Floyd Byers and Charles Byers.

Friends may call Thursday, November 13, 2014 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way North, Galion.  Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 14 at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Galion, with Pastor Jerry Penrod, Jr. officiating.  Burial will follow in Caledonia Cemetery, Caledonia.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Galion Community Hospital Auxiliary or the Christ United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.
