Elaine Trent Casey

Elaine Trent Casey, born Bertha Elaine Pratt, passed away Friday morning, Sept. 22, 2017 due to complications from heart valve surgery.

Born to Joseph and Alice Pratt in Quinter, Kansas on July 16, 1933. She was preceded in death by four brothers: Orville, Earl, Gilbert and Charles, and two sisters, Winnie and Wilma.

Elaine married Arthur C. Trent on March 16, 1952 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, and lived in Topeka, Kansas. She worked as a clerk in the Kansas statehouse until A.C.’s discharge from the Air Force. There, they had one son, Tony.

They moved to Ohio, settling in Crestline. A.C. took a job with Perfection-Cobey and Elaine began a 40-year career with First Federal Savings & Loan. After A.C.’s death and her retirement from First Federal, she reunited with her “high-school sweetheart,” George Casey, of Toronto, Kansas on Sept. 7, 1997.

From that point on, Elaine returned to the “farm life,” living on George’s farm in southeast Kansas, while maintaining her home in Galion for seasonal visits. She remained there until George’s death in 2016.

While in Kansas, she was actively involved in her church and with her Senior Citizens’ Center. She was an avid fan of college football and basketball, following her Ohio State Buckeyes even while living in Kansas and absolutely loved “March Madness.”

Elaine is survived by her son, Tony (Nancy), grandson, Kyle (Krista), and great-granddaughter, Lydia Trent. She is also survived by her step-children: Keith Casey (Dina), Letitia Keenan (Jim), Teresa Handley, and their families. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation in Elaine’s name to one of the following organizations: the American Heart Association, the National Kidney Foundation, or the American Cancer Society.

Friends may call on Thursday, September 28, 2017 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way North, Galion. Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017, with Rev. Lowell Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Galion.

Online condolences may be made to the family in care of masfh.com.
