BUTLER: Ed Secrist was a Proverbs 11 Christian: “A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” (Prov 11:25) Generosity and compassion characterized Ed’s heart – he was the first to lend a hand and contribute to needs at the church. He will be remembered for his kindness and love.
Edwin L. Secrist, Sr. age 81, of Butler passed away peacefully October 28, 2021. He was born September 6, 1940 in Mansfield, the only child of Harold and Birdella (Divelbiss) Secrist.
A farm boy at heart, he loved working the fields on the north side of the Clear Fork Valley with a John Deere tractor. That work ethic served him through 47 years of public service, mostly with the Ohio Dept. of Transportation and another 8 years at Possum Run Walmart.
He was a member of First Friends Church, Mansfield.
He is lovingly remembered by Donna Secrist, sons David Secrist of Butler, Ed (Deb) Secrist of Bellville, daughter Cathy (Jerry) Hetsler of Bellville; grandchildren Joshua Secrist, Ashley (Ed) Sudol, Jacob (Veronica) Hetsler, Jackie Van Antwerp, Leon, Daniel, and William (Krystal) DeBouver, Angelia (Sam) West, and Kristina Bailey; great grandchildren Connor Secrist, Raegan and Jack Sudol, Ben and Phillip Hetsler, Isaac Caudill, Aaron, Wyatt and Olivia DeBouver, and Kate, Logan and Cameron Van Antwerp.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Beverly DeBouver and great grandson Zachary DeBouver.
His funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at 11 a.m. in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home. Pastor Kelly Meckes will officiate. Burial will follow in Bellville Cemetery. Friends may call just prior to the funeral service.
