Dorothy Benedict

BUTLER:  Dorothy M. Benedict, age 97, of Butler passed away Monday, September 29, 2014 in Winchester Terrace Nursing Home following a short illness.

She was born April 17, 1917 in Duluth, Minnesota and moved to Richland County in the early 1920s.

Dorothy worked over 25 years for Gorman Rupp in Bellville, retiring in 1985.

She was a member of New Life Church of Christ in Bellville, where she served as a Sunday school teacher.

Dorothy was a member of the Fun N Friendship Club and enjoyed participating in the group’s Hee Haw show.   She loved baking and cake decorating and collected hundreds of greeting cards, never throwing them away. A stylish lady, she always wore and a hat and one of her cherished broaches or pins.  She adored her Oldsmobile (if it wasn’t an Olds, it simply wasn’t a car!) and was able to drive herself until this past fall.

She is survived by her children Merry Louise Shadel and Lillie Holtzmiller both of Mansfield, Daniel and Patty Benedict of Bellville, Gloria Jean and Thomas Teeter of Lexington, Carlene Seals of Delaware and Darlene Carpenter of Apache Junction, AZ; twenty grandchildren and many many great grand and great great grandchildren, and three half siblings Martha, Roberta and Darrell.
