Donald R. Williams, 73, of Mansfield, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 27, 2014, at his residence.
Donald was born on December 31, 1940, in Leon, KY, to Clifford D. and M. Alice Mayo Williams. Donald was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, proudly serving his country during peacetime. He retired after 36 years from AK Steel, and worked for the last 11 years at Walmart. Donald enjoyed people, and would enjoy joking around with his co-workers. He was a member of Diamond Hill Cathedral, where he served as an usher. A man of many hobbies, he enjoyed woodworking and building bird houses, gardening, collecting nut crackers, computer games and crossword puzzles. He also loved animals, and had a special place in his heart for his pet guinea pig, Cinnamon.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dottie Barber Williams; his daughter, Julia Anderson of Mansfield; grandsons Adam Anderson and Drew Anderson, who knew him as “Pap”; great-grandchildren Draven Anderson and Cason Anderson, who called him “Poppaw”; and his fury baby, Cinnamon.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents.
Calling hours will be 4:00p.m. to 8:00 p.m. p.m. Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, LTD., 1106 Park Avenue East (St. Rt. 430E), Mansfield. Calling hours will also be 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 3, 2014 at Diamond Hill Cathedral, 500 Tingly Ave., Mansfield. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the church with Assistant Pastor Roger Garrison officiating, along with the participation of Assistant Pastor Chuck Carrier and Assistant Pastor Mel Schroeder. Burial will take place at Mansfield Memorial Park.
