Dianne Dee (Hoak) Kegley

Dianne Dee (Hoak) Kegley, 77, resident of Shelby died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017 surrounded by her family at her home following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born Feb. 24, 1940 in Shelby to Adrian D. and Louise R. “Betty” (Wilson) Hoak, she had been a Shelby resident for many years. She resided in Bracey, Virginia from 1983 until returning to Shelby in 2016.

Dianne was a 1958 graduate of Shelby High School and was employed as a secretary to the Mayor for the City of Shelby retiring in 1981. She served as secretary with the Mayors Ross Sipes, Raymond Wilkinson, Henry Cline and Garland Gates.

She also served as secretary to Finance Directors Jerry Weaver and John Devito. While residing in Virginia, she was employed as an assistant manager with the State of Virginia Welcome Center.

Dianne loved taking long walks and having cookouts with her children and grandchildren. She had never met a stranger and was very close with her church family at the South Side Baptist Church in LaCrosse, Virginia. She enjoyed shopping at thrift stores and garage sales with her girlfriends.

She is survived by her children, Sonya Hobbs Chew, of Shelby, Brian (Lisa) Hobbs, of La Crosse, Virginia,

Kelly Kegley and Fiancé Robbie Evans, of Dolphin, Virginia, David (Diane) Kegley, of Kansas City, Missouri, Debrah (Johnny) Carter, of Knoxville, Tennessee, Mark (Connie) Kegley, of Shelby, and Cheryl (Andy) Ball, of Crestline; 17 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; one sister Mary Ann (Gordon) Robertson, of Shelby, her special cousin, Bev Wilcox, nieces nephews and her canine companion Bentley.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Hollie M. Kegley, June 27, 2013, one brother Scott W. Hoak in 1981 and one infant sister.

Even through her illness, Dianne kept a positive attitude and with a smile would state that “her glass was half full.”

Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday March 3, 2017 from the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory with Pastor Walter Keib officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 4 to 6 p.m.

Additional funeral services will be held at the Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home in South Hill, Virginia, with burial in Crestview Memorial Park in LaCrosse,Virginia. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio, 1050 Dauch Dr. Ashland, Ohio 44805.
