MANSFIELD: Diana Kent Thiel passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2021 in her home in Primrose Assisted Living with her family. She was 87.
She was born February 12, 1933 to parents Vern & Mildred (Whisler) Hoffman in Bellevue. Her family moved to the Mansfield area while she was still young and she graduated from Mansfield Senior High with the class of 1951. After high school she attended The Juilliard School of Music to study Opera from 1951-1953. She continued her studies at the University of Rio Grande (Ohio) from 1953-1955 where she met her first husband Carroll Kent.
Diana went back to school to finish her education at Ashland College from 1965-1966 to get her degree in education. She then went on to teach in Galion City Schools for over 22 years teaching English and Math. She was well respected and loved by the students and faculty around her. Her teaching career will live on as many other family members have followed in her footsteps by becoming teachers as well.
Diana was a cultured woman and when she wasn’t working, she enjoyed going to the symphony and anything music related. In her spare time, she enjoyed painting, writing poetry and even wrote a book. She relished watching her children grow up and enjoyed owning a horse farm.
She married her second husband Tom in 1995 and they enjoyed time traveling to many places including Florida, Michigan and the Indianapolis 500 just to name a few.
She is survived by daughter Julie (Richard) Oswalt; sons Doug (Judy) Kent and Stephen (Karen) Kent; four grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband Carroll Kent; second husband Thomas Thiel.
Diana’s family will be holding graveside services Friday, January 15, 2021 in Fairview Cemetery. Pastor TJ Waters will speak.
